This past weekend Brian and I headed a half an hour out of the Cities to Stillwater where we stayed at a bed & breakfast for the night. Since we got married, we’ve made it a point to try and get away for a night or weekend every few months, and it’s been such a great practice! It’s nice to have time together, away from the demands and distractions of everyday life to really relax and unwind. Case in point, after an afternoon of window shopping and seeing the town, we took an hour nap when we got to our bed & breakfast… for me that isn’t too strange, but for Brian, that never happens! I think I’ve seen that man take a nap 2 or 3 times… and probably only when he’s been sick!
Anyway, I wanted to share some photos of our bed & breakfast since we stayed in a unique Art Deco themed room. It was like taking a step back in time!
I loved the high ceilings and hanging pendant light. The pink marble-surrounded fireplace was a lovely focal point to the room, and the arched closets on either side with their beaded curtains were too much fun!
The bathroom was stunning with the pink marble tub and gold hardware. The archways throughout the room really enhanced the whole Art Deco theme and all the artwork was on point!
The sink was built into an old wooden hutch and had swan heads for the faucet and handle… so unique and unexpected! I certainly wouldn’t want this in my house for everyday use, but for 24 hours during a fun getaway… why not?! The more extravagant, the better! 😉
We really enjoyed our stay at this bed and breakfast. It was a bit unique in that we never met the owners… we simply walked in to our room where a key and letter were waiting for us. And then since it was such a small place (only 2 rooms), we received a voucher for breakfast at a larger inn nearby.
We would highly recommend spending the time, money, and energy that goes into planning little getaways every so often to help keep the love alive with your spouse. The change of pace, intentionality, and romance of a weekend away really can do wonders in your marriage! Happy travels!
