Dirty dishes still sitting on the table from last night means friends were over, laughs were had, stories were told. It means that we were having too good of a time to pause even for a moment for clean-up. It means that 16 years of friendship provides the unspoken rule that things don’t have to be perfect, don’t have to be instantly clean and in order. It makes me want every evening to be like last night… no “entertaining” or “hosting,” just friendship and reality.
Isn’t it so good when we can just let go and be ourselves with each other? And I love how our homes can facilitate that. I love how things as trivial as the comfort of our couches and the coziness that our wall hangings bring can create a safe space that helps people relax and be themselves. Yes, homes are powerful things, friends.
