THIS! It’s so “design-y” to say “form over function,” but if it doesn’t work for you, is that really even good design? I’m a strong believer in the marriage of form and function, in things working for you just as well as they inspire you. So many of the homes we see styled on Pinterest or in the magazines or even on Instagram are put together for show, not for real living. So don’t get discouraged when your house doesn’t seem to match all the shiny photos you’re seeing, because people actually live in your house! Your home should be designed with your everyday life in mind… each room serving your family and each furniture arrangement and decoration catering to your everyday activities. Sure, if it’s a room you don’t use often, go ahead and throw function out the window. But if you’re like most of us, then don’t just focus on how things look, but also focus on how they work… you’ll be so much happier for it!
